Our CEO, Oonagh Smyth, discusses the launch of our latest campaign and how we can support you in managing your care service.

As someone who is leading a service, you're responsible for ensuring that your team delivers high-quality, person-centred care, all while navigating the complexities of compliance, leadership, and daily operations. Whether you’re a registered manager, nominated individual or a director of a care organisation, it’s likely that your role involves many challenging tasks.

Throughout March, we’re running our ‘Managing your service’ campaign. This campaign is intended to provide you with insight, guidance, tools and resources that can help you manage your service more effectively.

Well-led care organisations are crucial to the future of the sector. Leaders and managers shape the culture of an organisation, through every interaction they have, every day. Skilled, knowledgeable and compassionate leaders and managers are needed to build successful organisations.

Our most recent report shows that stable leadership is a crucial factor impacting both retention and Care Quality Commission (CQC) performance. This is because effective and committed managers help to create an environment in which staff want to remain. They are also more able to deliver impactful changes to the standards of care that people receive from their organisation. The successful day-to-day management of your service is often dependant on your management and leadership skills. You need to be able to delegate effectively, deploy your team properly, motivate them, monitor performance and a huge variety of other tasks, all while keeping an eye on the challenges the organisation may face in the future. To help you do this, we’ll be breaking this campaign down into three focus areas:

  • Manging resources

Managing resources is all about how to effectively use what’s available to you in running your service. This includes how you deploy the people you manage, how you utilise digital tools and how you use the time available to you.

  • Managing people

This theme of the campaign is all about how to get the most out of your teams. This includes motivating them, reviewing their performance and establishing a positive culture that makes them want to remain with you.

  • Managing a service

As the service manager, your decisions are likely to have a significant impact on how the organisation performs at CQC inspection. We’ll provide you with insight into how to prepare for inspection properly and cover recent changes in how CQC are performing their duties.

The campaign will run across our website, social media, and other communications channels with blogs and articles sharing expert insight and real-life case studies, as well as signposting to further resources, projects, and other support.

You can follow the campaign on social media using #ManagingYourService. You can also share your own insights and experiences about being a service leader.
